Zakynthos is into its 2nd day of coronavirus restrictions being lifted. Although Zakynthos is not back to its normal buzzing routine, there were quite a lot more people out and about. It was notable today that a lot of people were wearing facial masks and some even gloves. The option to wear a facial mask or not has been of concern lately, but it seems most have taken the option to wear one.
Stopping at a pharmacy today, the owner mentioned “it was nice to see Zakynthos town finally come to life”. The weather aslo helped, as more people started to circulate.
Approaching the main business area of Saint Marcos, one could notice the popular coffee shops getting prepared. It seems that they have removed enclosed areas and have made them into a more “open air” area.
Travelling around Zakynthos there were a few shops open. Only those that are allowed were open and they all followed the strict measures.
However, it seemed the most popular areas where people congregated wasn’t the normal coffee shops but those that were open so people could pay their bill.
The waterboard, the telecommunications and banks had queues. At these places it was notable people were taking the precautionary measures so as not to spread the virus.
A video driving through one of the main areas shows life is starting to emerge once again. Let’s hope Zakynthos keeps up the good work and will be soon open for guests.
