A contract for the electronic cataloguing of the Library was signed.

On the occasion of the opening of the “Reading Club for Children” function of the Public Historical Library, the President of the Election Council Thanasis Karaiskos, spoke on the radio -E- for this new activity of the Library, as well as the effort to restore the area where the Library is housed in the Intellectual Centre. The Library has recently supplied several new children’s books, which children can borrow.

Pending the conclusion from the Ministry of Education

Regarding the restoration of the building, Mr. Karaiskos said that for 12 years efforts have been made to re-operate the reading room and there is some help for the studies by the Primary Education Directorate of Zakynthos (ΠΕΖ) engineers.

We remind that about two months ago, an engineer from the Ministry of Education had visited Zakynthos and had checked the Cultural Centre building to calculate the damage from the recent earthquake. For the time being, there is work still outstanding on the study to be undertaken by the Ministry, and the only element to date is an earlier study to restore the building that was made in 2010 but needs updating.

According to Mr. Karaiskos, what is now expected is the Ministry to send the results of its audit and to follow the next steps regarding the restoration of the building.

Currently, however, direct interventions concerning the supply of new furniture, disinfestations, disinfection, cleaning, replacement of glass, etc are proceeding, while the decision recently taken to sign a contract with a company that will take over

The supplier with whom the contract was signed undertakes to supply and import 2,000 electronic registrations to the online catalogue of the Zakynthos Public Historical Library.

The format of the records to be delivered should be in accordance with the library cataloguing and classification rules.
