In his letter, Airport chief, Spyros Kladis urges local authorities to take the necessary actions to address the severe problem observed at the airport, due to emanation!
Specifically, in the document sent to the DEYAZ President, the Municipality, the Health Directorate of the Ionian regional Office, in Zakynthos and the Department of the Environment of Zakynthos reports: “Following on from the above, we know that in recent days there has been a severe problem of un pleasant odour, at Zakynthos International Airport, which we suspect is due to the nearby facilities of the Zakynthos Wastewater Treatment Plant. We had a similar problem last year, as we had informed you with the above (1 related to the above) and for which, following an autopsy conducted by the Department of Environment and the Water Economy and Spatial Planning department of Zakynthos. (2 related to the above), information has come into hand about illegal dumping of sewage or sludge by the Waste Managment Associaction on an adjacent plot, unbeknown to the owner. In order to avoid a recurrence of such phenomena which have an adverse impact on public health and tourism as a product of the island, please take action on the part of the competent authorities. ”
This is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed immediately, as especially now that the temperature is rather high, the atmosphere, even in the parking lot of the airport is suffocating! Unfortunately, thousands of our visitors as soon as they arrive on the island get a first… scent of what awaits them all over Zakynthos, where they are greeted by endless mountains of rubbish!
