Asteras Vlachiotis v’s Katastari

Asteras Vlachiotis and Katastari lined up, under the sunny skies of Lakonia, to  compete for the 8th group of the 3rd national division, 22nd game. Katastaris technician, Dimitris Nolis, made changes to the basic as two key players are penalized because of cards.

Kostas Kardaris and Nikos Kourellas stayed on the island. So Katastari entered the pitch with a 3-5-2 formation. Under the post the Drakopoulos Brilakis, Sotiropoulos and Karvounis three stoppers. Right half-back, Panagopoulos, on the left, Maroudas, midfield, Musaii, Tiliopoulos and Pettas, and forwards Kapsaskis and Mezini. The hosts with an incentive to take the match and save this year (30 points) came in strong and tried to take the ball to the area of Drakopoulos, on a pitch that is bad. The guests, initially with clear inhibiting guidelines tried to find their footing on the pitch.

Game centre with strong duels, the two teams could not take the ball down (not helped by the field). The islanders, crowded in the midfield, made it hard for the Lakonians who saw Reedzo leave his team with 10 players at 20′ as he was sent-off by referee Koutsanastasis when Mezini went into a counterattack and the Asteras player, who was last, pulled him by the shirt.

The balances were changed, with Katastari having the numerical advantage in the match, which continued to be 0-0. The Zakynthian team took action on the pitch and tried, with rigged balls, to become dangerous. Two cases of foul passed unexploited. At 37′ though, the team of Dimitris Nolis managed to get ahead in the score when there was a centre into the area of Vlachiotis, the ball found a defenders feet, was sent to Giorgos Karvounis who with a shot sent the ball in the net, making 0-1 for the Ionian Islanders.

The hosts found themselves with their backs to the wall as, they were playing with one less player, were behind in the score, in a game that they wanted too much because they were not saved, from relegation. On the other hand, the islanders had the psychology so they were able to go to the locker room with this 0-1, which could have been more as twice Pettas and once Brilakis were found to be in good positions but they were unable to send the ball into the net. The Zakynthian team hit several times in counterattacks.

The second half started with the hosts trying to find an answer response to the goals they had received and the islanders cleverly keeping the Lakonians away from their area and to hit in the offensive attack. The guests tried mainly with deep centres to threaten as well as from set phases. The first major and unfortunate moment for Vlachiotis came at 64′ when Kristos from a direct free kick sent the ball to Dracopoulos’ bar and so 0-1 remained for the islanders. The match had reached the 80th with Katastari holding this valuable 1-0 and Astera Vlachiotis, although with a numerical disadvantage, trying to push, but somewhat unorthodoxly not rationally.

The truth is that the Zakynthian team did not take chances, even though it had the numerical advantage. At 92′, the referee of the match, Koutsanastasis, saw a penalty in the Katastari area, Kristos ubdertook to take the shot that led to the final 1-1. After this development, Asteras Vlachiotis went to 31 points and essentially wants another 5 points to mathematically secure their stay in the division. On the other side, Katastari went up to 34 and wants another win against Eikosimia next Sunday to secure, mathematically, their stay in the division.
