Most living on our Island would have hear the Church bells chime this evening. Prayers have already taken place earlier this afternoon in preparation for “Soul Saturday”
It is a Greek orthodox tradition, the remembrance of those who are no longer with us.
*Soul Saturday* in Zakynthos it is celebrated today with an afternoon service at all churches. Special bread is made, known as *prosforo* and given to the church for blessing usually in honour of the dead.
Koliva is also given out at the end of the service as a representation of life/rebirth and of course a candle lit to honour our loved ones who have passed on, a reminder the the soul is a continual light.
For those who wish to have a prayer read in honour of those wh are no longer with us, they can do so on “soul Saturday”, just ask your local priest.
