City Council members pushing for Alexander Roma Street to be for pedestrians only.

The issue of Zakynthos Local Council, which insists on its walkway, urges all the relevant authorities to work together and to provide effective solutions after so many years. This coming week will be a decisive one, with members of the Local Council planning meetings with the Vice-Mayor and Mayor of Zakynthos and the Municipal Technical Services.

The aim is to initiate all legal procedures for the Alexander Rome and other adjacent streets to become pedestrian streets only. The goal of the Local Council is to clarify the case and see exactly what is needed to pave the way. “We will start by making contacting people so that decisions in the Local Councils can begin to be implemented. We will meet with everyone to let them know what they will do. We see that there are no solutions to the various problems of our fellow citizens’ daily lives. The Mayor should start moving forward on these issues and not just look at the waste issue. Businessmen want to the area to become a pedestrian street. However, we have to get moving on it,» commented Local Council President Konstantinos Pettas, who pointed out that the issue of drains should also be resolved. “It is an oxymoron to say that the mayor will pay for an Art Gallery in the mountains, whilst at the same time our fellow citizens’ fall into our drains and no solutions are given.”

At the heart of the problems of everyday life.

The issue of the drains around the city, which need to be repaired immediately, has been much of a concern lately. Indeed, measures have already been taken to introduce new drains in areas such as Kaminia and Pikridiotissa, but this issue has been delayed for the time being. One of the priorities of the Local Council is to resolve this issue once and for all.

Also parking spaces that need to be created, lighting, potholes are problems that burn and need to be resolved immediately.
