Complaints of waste runoffs from Liva in Forrest land.

Almost one year after the first Department of Forestry’s inspection at the waste management facility in Liva, in connection with the legitimacy of the works of opening the access road, the Service is being re-established and according to what Director Dimitris Skaltsogiannis himself stated in there will soon be another followed up with a new inspection in the region, following complaints made in the past.

According to him, complaints have nothing to do with the road, but with concerns of pollution from the waste that streams into a forest area.

However, according to Mr. Skaltsogiannis there is another parameter that is causing concern and concerns the work of afforestation in the area of Pantokrator, which still has yet to be done.

This is essentially one of the conditions laid down by the forestry authority for the licensing of the projects in Liva, and concerns the Municipality’s obligation to reforest a forest area of 84 hectares in the area of Pantokrator (Megalo Vouno area) in order to permit the use of the plot in Liva.

According to the commitments which were made in the past by (FODSA) the waste management executives, afforestation will be done in the same way as the basis of the approved study, while it  also requires a significant amount of 200,000 euros for completion.

“There is a pendulum for the reforestation of the Great Mountain in Pantokrator since no action has been taken so far. As soon as the time stipulated by the law is completed, I will inform my Cheif and from then on, it is a question that will be dealt with by the Decentralized Administration, “said the Director of Forests, adding that there will soon be checks by the Office employees in order to find out if there is the problem with waste runoffs and if the allegations that they have reached the forest land not included as stated in the agreement.
