Coronavirus:- Αlarm bells ring in Greece

Coronavirus:- alarm bells ring in Greece.

At the same time, an alarm was sounded by the Health Authorities of the Region of Central Greece from confirmed cases in a group of travellers from Serbia, in Edipsos, North Evia.

According to the website lamiareport.gr, a man from the group around 50, felt unwell and went to the Istiaia Health Centre.

There, ignoring the health protocols, they were sent to Lamia Hospital (along with his wife), by taxi! Arriving at Lamia Hospital, they were given a molecular test that showed that they were suffering from covid-19.

The Serbian couple travelled from the Balkan country to Greece, with a group of 20 people on July 4 and ended up in a hotel in Edipsos.

Naturally, the Civil Protection and the General Directorate of Health & Social Welfare of the Region of Central Greece started a road race to track the contacts of the two Serbs and mainly to locate the taxi driver who transported them to Lamia Hospital.

At the same time, the Lamia Hospital is examining where the Serb will be treated, who has symptoms, but in a mild form. His wife is asymptomatic.

Another case involving a tourist from Romania, who tested positive for Covid-19 blatantly, disregarded safety protocols after reportedly travelling around the island of Crete for at least 72 hours after her arrival.

Another incident is that with a Swedish tourist, who entered our country and underwent a molecular test, but did not observe the 24-hour isolation until the results came out, deciding to … enjoy her walk in Athens.

Cases like this have caused our authorities concern not only to the authorities but to residents who have tried so hard, for so many months to keep the virus at bay.

What do scientists fear for the coming weeks?

Experts are sounding the alarm once again as the concern for the resumption of the pandemic in Greece has not gone away.

And while in previous days all the weight had fallen on the opening of tourism, now the experts are turning their attention to Promachonas, the border of Greece and the images of overcrowding that were observed at recent festivals.

Infectious disease specialists stress that while the coronavirus is on the rise in the Balkans, so far Greece has managed to limit it and locate it at the border.

In other words, the fact that most cases were detected before tourists arrived at their destination is a very important step to prevent the spread of the virus.

At the same time, the National Public Health Organization remains on high alert, while inspections and tests at the country’s entrance gates are intensifying and tightening.

Of course, despite the fact that the two major problems of the experts are the Promachonas and the festivals, it does not mean that there are no other open fronts.

Specifically, the centre of the pandemic in the Greek territory remains active, as Xanthi continues to give positive cases.

27 new cases

On Tuesday, EODY announced 27 new cases of coronavirus in our country. Of those 14 were recorded at the country’s entrance gates, three are imported cases that came to a laboratory for testing. Of the cases in the territory, three come from Xanthi, four from Attica, while one case was recorded in Larissa, Kastoria and Karditsa.

The total number of cases is 3589, of which 54.7% of men are men. 868 (24.2%) are considered to be related to travel from abroad and 1941 (54.1%) are related to an already known case.

Ten of our fellow citizens are being treated intubated. Their average age is 59 years. 4 (40.0%) are women and the rest are men. 90.0% have an underlying disease or are over 70 years old. 121 patients have been discharged from the ICU.

Lastly, we have another recorded death and 193 deaths in total in the country. The latest victim of the covid-19 was an 83-year-old woman who was being treated at Sotiria Hospital and was suffering from underlying diseases. It is worth noting that she is the first victim for days, since the last death was recorded on June 30.

62 (32.1%) women and the rest men. The median age of our deceased fellow citizens was 76 years and 95.9% had an underlying disease and / or age 70 and older.
