Coronavirus: Concern over negative case records – “Alarm” for difficult winter

The fact that, despite the stricter measures taken under the new health safety charter, the spread of the coronavirus continues at a rate that does not show de-escalation is a matter of great concern. Scientists warn of a difficult winter, with whatever that may mean.

Specifically, Matina Pagoni, president of the Athens-Piraeus Doctors Association (EINAP), commenting on the epidemiological picture of the country, underlined, speaking to ANT1: “We are entering the winter with great difficulties that I do not know how to overcome. From now on, we must all be careful, we did not expect the cases to increase in the last days, we believed in a straight line of the curve, unfortunately it did not happen “.

He pointed out that although three weeks have passed since the measures were announced, the death toll, cases and intubation have increased (25 deaths in three days), and this is not a good indicator, while all these parameters show that next quarter will be very hard.

We will have an increase in cases in the winter, the goal is to reduce them because if we arrive in November and with the flu, things will be very difficult,” she added.

At the same wavelength, the professor of Pathology – Infectious Diseases Charalambos Gogos, speaking to Alpha, initially stressed that the measures are not fully complied with, there are colouring indications that should not be at such a time.

“We are in a good position in relation to the EU, we have stable levels of cases, but we want to reduce them in view of winter. To enter the winter season with Rt below 1 “said the professor.

He also noted that the situation in the country’s nursing homes is serious and called on employees to adhere to health protocols.

At the same time, according to him, the younger generation have relaxed measures, because the majority of them are asymptomatic and in general there are intense crowding phenomena with the spread of the disease continuing normally.

Hardalias: Respect the measures

At the centre of concern for the possibility of new lockdowns of the Kozani type situations, are other areas of Northern Greece, with first of all Ioannina.

The Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias, appealed to the residents of Ioannina and the wider area to observe over the next 24 hours “reverent and disciplined” prevention measures. Assess the situation in Ioannina regarding the spread of the coronavirus.

Mr. Hardalias stressed that “the situation is extremely critical, there is epidemiological pressure, while, as we are very far but also very close to the next level, whether Ioannina will pass in situations that upset us all because they have an effect on normalcy in the business , family planning, depends on ourselves “.

The Undersecretary underlined that in the next 24 hours the measures must be observed in a disciplined manner, pointed out that controls are being intensified and a strategy is being updated for specific neighbourhoods, while he made a strong recommendation for masks and avoidance of coloration on maps.

“The next 24 hours are crucial. We must all realize that yes we have the right to fun, to carelessness, but in dangerous situations we must all realize that we must take several steps back and implement the measures, avoid unnecessary movements, be very coordinated in the effort to implement the measures of them, “he said
