The Ministry of Health announced an increase of 18 cases of coronavirus in Greece, this afternoon 12/5.
A total of 2,744 cases have been recorded in our country.
The representative of the Ministry of Health, infectious disease specialist Sotiris Tsiodras, announced on Tuesday afternoon 18 new cases of coronavirus disease in our country. 12 of which concern structures with vulnerable groups, 7 of which even concerned members of a family. The total number of cases is 2744, of which 55.5% are men.
Of all the cases, 608 are considered to be related to travel from abroad. 1378 are related to an already known case.
Mr. Tsiodras also announced that a new death has been recorded in the last 24 hours. The total number in Greece reaching 152.
Thirty-two fellow citizens are being treated by intubation. Their average age is 67 years. 11 are women and the rest are men. 96.9% have an underlying disease or are over 70 years old. 88 patients have been discharged from the ICU.
Of the total deaths, 40 (26.3%) were women and the rest were men. The average age of our deceased fellow citizens was 75 years and 93.4% had an underlying disease and / or age 70 and older.
A total of 10,6054 clinical samples have been tested.
Vaccines.
Regarding therapeutic developments, Mr. Tsiodras said that we have some news in the last few days. It is optimistic and there are some announcements for promising messages from the W.H.O that some treatments (about 4 to 5 seem quite promising) rather limiting the severity of the disease but they do not kill or wipeout the virus.
Also in terms of vaccines, according to recent W.H.O announcements, 8 vaccine candidates are currently in the clinical trial phase.
Pay special attention to Health measures.
Mr. Tsiodras also stressed that in recent days there has been an expected relaxation from all of us which needs attention. The World Health Organization announced yesterday that countries that have eased restrictive measures have seen an increase in the number of new cases.
In the United States, the lead scientist warns the Congress of the need for a gradual, rather than a speedy, lifting of restrictive measures. China, has seen an increase in numbers where the pandemic first started, in Wuhan. In Korea, restaurants have closed due to epidemics following the withdrawal of the measures, in Germany there is also a gradual rise in numbers and there is even a significant refusal to take further measures in some provinces. Everywhere the protagonist is the responsibility and the consequences for Public Health (not only from the virus but also from the possible new or ongoing prohibition itself).
