Coronavirus:- Tourism in Zakynthos. MP, Dionysios Aktypis discusses matters with Tourism Minister

In a scheduled teleconference with the Minister of Tourism Mr. Ch. Theocharis, the Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. M. Konsolas, the ND MPs of the Ionian Islands Mr. S. Gika (N. Corfu), A. Kavvada (N. Lefkada) and P. Kappato (N. Kefallinias), as well as the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands Mrs. R Kratsa  participated yesterday, Tuesday, April 14 with The Member of Parliament for Zakynthos, Mr. Dionysis Aktypis, participated yesterday morning.

The discussion focused on the assessment of the situation in the field of tourism. The Members of Parliament have put forward proposals to mitigate the effects of Covid-19 on local economies, which are mostly based on tourism. At the same time, they informed the Minister and the Deputy Minister about the specific needs of the Ionian Islands that should be taken into account in order to form a detailed plan to support their economy.

It was found that there is a common will from all sides so that all the necessary measures are taken in order to limit, as much as possible, the effects of the pandemic on our tourism. It was stressed, in fact, that everyone’s priority is to support tourism businesses as well as workers in them.At the same time, during the discussion, special emphasis was given to the planning and the prospects of the dynamic restart of the tourism sector, when, of course, the conditions allow it.

The strengthening of our country’s brand name, the expansion of the tourist season, the strengthening of domestic tourism, the improvement of the quality of tourism services, the targeted redistribution of unused resources of the ESPA, the support of tourism companies and especially those affected by Last year’s bankruptcy of Thomas Cook is just some of the issues that have been widely discussed.

Finally, Mr. Aktypis underlined, “The main goal of all of us is to save this season. At the same time, however, from now on, we will have to look at the actions that need to be taken in order to have a much better season in 2021. We need to work now so that the next day finds us ready to regain lost ground. ”
