Coronavirus vaccination – when to book your appointment

Update on the vaccination programme.

As every Monday,  there is the live update on the progress of the program for the coronavirus vaccine in Greece Today 8/2/21  EODY announced 638 new cases of the virus in the last 24 hours in the country.

Of these, 321 cases – that is, again more than half – were detected in Attica and 80 in Thessaloniki (

Effectiveness of Vaccines.

The President of the National Vaccination Committee Maria Theodoridou and Marios Themistokleous, secretary general of Primary Health Care, informed us of the vaccinations.

Mrs. Theodoridou spoke first, talking about the effectiveness of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

She said that the National Vaccination Committee reviewed all the scientific data and explained the reasons why the vaccine will not be given to those over 65 years of age. Studies include a small number so the sample is not considered reliable. However the data on immunogenicity make us believe that it will be effective in old ages. and it is possible that the position of the commission will be changed by newer data.

After explaining why this vaccine is safe for people aged 18 to 64, she went on to talk about the misinformation that exists about fertility.

“Documented studies show that fertility is not affected by the vaccine,” she said, wanting to clarify matters.

She also said that we are experiencing two epidemics at the same time  One is COVID-19 and the other is the excessive information, which creates fears and insecurity. Scientists will deal effectively with the former, but for the latter it must be dealt with to the best of everyones ability.

Opening of the vaccination platform for other age groups.

Afterwards, Mr. Themistocleous spoke, announcing that the vaccination platform will be “enriched” in the coming days.

Specifically, he said that the platform will be open for those aged 60-64 years, it opens on Wednesday 10/02/2021 and the first vaccinations will take place on the 15th of the month.

Today we have exceeded 410,000 vaccinations

For ages 75 to 79, the platform opens on Friday, February 12th.

“Yesterday we received the first 45,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and we expect more to be received in the coming days,” he continued.

As he stated, there is a problem with this vaccine, as there is not a large sample of vaccinated for those over 65. However, as he stressed, it seems to provide sufficient safety. He added that from the first dose to the second, they can take up to 12 weeks.
