Council re-activates the Tourism Promotion and Development Committee

By a decision of the City Council on December 6th, 2019, the Mayor re-established and activated the Tourism Promotion and Development Committee. Mr Haralambos Varvarigos, City Councilor, and Mr Antonis Nikoloudakis, Vice-President, Hotelier, were appointed Vice President.

The Mayor Mr. Aretakis has emphatically expressed his intention for substantial, strong and integrated support of tourism in Zakynthos, which is the pillar of the island’s economic prosperity.

The Commission’s immediate priorities are to reformulate Zakynthos’ tourist identity in modern terms, to strengthen tourism and all basic infrastructure and to implement the updated marketing plan. At the same time, priority will be given to the redevelopment of the “Blue Flag” program, to tourism education, to tackling the issues of tourism and to upgrading working conditions across the tourism industry.

Our goal is to highlight, in a sustainable and sustainable way, the island’s flagship sights, such as the shipwreck, and to give extra emphasis to the support and promotion of cultural heritage, environmental wealth and Zakynthian gastronomy.

A new round of intensive work to support and promote tourism begins, with the cooperation of productive actors and social groups. We will make every effort to successfully support the Commission’s work on tourism in Zakynthos for the coming years.
