Council requests help in keeping our Island Clean!

Over the last couple of weeks it seems unbelievable but true. Garbage is being collected from our streets. A picture of cleanliness finally giving us hope that it will continue and perhaps the images of mayhem will be memories of the past.

In an effort to clean up Zakynthos our Council requires the continue contribution from ALL of us. Above all, the participation of proper waste management.  Meaning NO DUMPING WASTE wherever it suits you!

In a recent press release by our Council, they requested compliance to the rules.

PRESS RELEASE

Compliance with cleanliness rules.

Since the beginning of September, the Municipal Authority has been making every effort to improve the collection of waste in town and villages around the island. This effort is being implemented by activating all the services of the Municipality and the FoDSA (Waste Management Centre), the necessary personnel and equipment. The immediate goal is to remove the waste from the collection points and to enhance any activity related to the cleanliness of Zakynthos to collect and maintain a decent image in public areas.

This great effort requires the continuous contribution of all municipal services. However, above all, the active participation of citizens in the proper management of waste.

We also inform the Citizens that the implementation of the regulations of the Municipal Cleanliness Regulations will start immediately. Mainly focusing on the uncontrolled discharge of waste outside the bins.

It is certain that our Mayor, Mr Aretakis and the Deputy Mayor, Mr Koutsogiannis are making every effort. Mot only to collect from the garbage bins but also that in which surrounds it. They are also trying to collect bulky items, too. Focusing on citizen’s behaviour in regards to illegal dumping and uncleanliness the council warns that it has to “STOP” In fact Mr Koutsogiannis has informed citizens “bulky waste and tree branches should not be disposed uncontrolled but only after consulting with the relevant services at Tel: 2695360 910, Zakynthos council Traffic Department.

And … as for those who are in a hurry for results and have already reached their conclusions, don’t be in a hurry to judge, as “clean” business is going on, and for the end result, it takes time.”

On another good note, Recyclable material has increased and more people are becoming aware of what can be recycled. If you are unsure what items you can recycle click on the Facebook page available. https://www.facebook.com/mplekados/

As time will tell, so far the collection gives hope. Let’s all try our best to do the right thing and keep our home clean! After all it is our home and our home deserves the best. Recycle as much as you can we can get down to zero waste if we all try to work together.
