The UK Government have announced that if the UK leaves the EU under No Deal on 31 October 2019, they will end freedom of movement for EU Citizens as of the 01 November 2019. The news has been announced as part of plans made by the UK Home Office.
Despite the announcement, there’s currently no replacement system and the decision has not gone down well with many politicians. It has also worried many people who say that it will cause chaos and instability. Many are still pushing for a transition period, and others are still very hopeful that a new plan may still be attained by forcing the EU to reopen Brexit negotiations in order to avoid a No Deal scenario.
Whatever happens, a source at The Home Office told leading UK newspapers that Minister Priti Patel wants to “take back control of our borders and end free movement on 31 October 2019.”
The UK now only has eleven weeks until it leaves the EU.
