A forest fire broke out a short while ago in the area between the Shipwreck and Agios Georgios of Krimna. The fire department were quick to get 5 water trucks up to the area.   Aerial support has also been brought in.  Operating at the moment are 4 PZL type aeroplanes, two Canadair type aeroplanes and an 2 Ericsson helicopters. Volunteer firefighters are helping to combat the fire.

Meanwhile, the Zakynthos MP, Dionysis Aktypis together with the president of the Local Community of Volimon, Mr Theodosis are in the area to help. The Civil protection department of Zakynthos is also on standby.

At this stage residential areas are not in danger.
