five years ago….. Among the Olive Groves.

Turning back time, not too far back but taking you all back to 2014, five years ago to be exact, when the popular book “Among the Olive Groves”, written by Chrissie Parker was published. Something that some of the Zakynthos Informer Members can be proud of is that they too, were part of the journey, from research, assisting with information and even helping to name some of the characters.

So, Let’s have a look at what has happened since the book was first released?

The book has been bought and read in numerous countries including, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, French Guiana, Germany, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, USA and UK.

Chrissie has even been interviewed about the book many times for Podcasts, YouTube Book Clubs and Radio Interviews in the UK, Greece and USA.

Texts of Among the Olive Groves has been used for TIE International ESOL exams in Greece.

In 2016 Among the Olive Groves won an award for best Historical Fiction.

The book has featured at both Literary Festivals, Book Club and Library events.

The response to Among the Olive Groves has been absolutely awesome, something that Chrissie never expected, and it’s been more popular than she ever could have imagined it would be. Chrissie describes Among the Olive Groves as an important book, written from both her love of our island and its history, as well as wanting to show readers what a beautiful place our Island is, and more importantly; what the island and its residents went through during the second world war. Many facts from the war were deliberately woven into the story, and situations the characters find themselves in throughout the story aren’t too far from what actually took place during that time.

Five years on, the book is still as popular as ever, and after many requests from readers, Chrissie has now agreed to write a follow up, which will be published under the title of   A Night of Thunder”. The story will include a number of characters from the first book, and locations will include, of course our Island, Zakynthos, however, in this book we will also see an added surprise, with a connection to Mainland Greece and Bristol, UK.

We at the Zakynthos Informer know many members are just as excited about A Night of Thunder as our team is, and we would like to wish Chrissie the very best of  luck, as well as congratulations on everything that Among the Olive Groves has achieved in the last five years!

As we would say in Greek… καλή επιτυχία και καλοτάξιδο το νέο σου βιβλίο!!!
