Flamingo spotted in Argassi.

It is not the first time Flamingos have visited Zakynthos. Today this little guy was seen swimming in the sea in Argassi.

You may ask why is it grey and white? Flamingos are pink, are they not?

Well to answer both answers, Flamingos are born a fluffy grey. As they grow older their plumage changes to a pink colour due to the organisms they eat.

The greater flamingo, which is the type we see here in Zakynthos, has the most widespread distribution of all flamingo species. Populations are found in northwest India, the Middle East, the western Mediterranean, and Africa. Limited numbers of this species can be found over much of northern Europe and eastward to Siberia.

Flamingos are generally non-migratory birds. However, due to changes in the climate and water levels in their breeding areas, flamingo colonies are not always permanent.
