Flu Virus in Zakynthos on the rise.

In recent years the flu virus and the island have been on the verge of exacerbation, and several of our fellow citizens have, due to relapse, been hospitalized in the hospital’s Pathology and Pulmonology Clinic.

Doctor-Pulmonologist and Clinical Director Spyros Logothetis, in a statement on a local radio show was reassuring, noting that complicated cases are treated effectively in the Hospital and so far no need has been made for hospitalization in a hospital outside of Zakynthos.

He noted that our fellow citizens should be protected from the risk of transmission of the influenza virus, respecting the basic hygiene rules and said that if they have a fever, they should inform their doctor if the high temperatures persist for more than 2 3 days.

“This winter is quite difficult in terms of weather conditions, and this favours viral infections, pneumonia and related diseases. I do not think there should be anxiety about the flu, following a normal course, just this year there are many cases of H1N1. Nevertheless, we have seen and hospitalized many cases of sick people who have suffered from it and are doing very well, “Mr. Logothetis noted, stressing that these are the complications of influenza.

Mr. Logothetis noted that, apart from the flu virus, there are many other viral infections and the plan that patients should follow is the following: The first three to three days, high fever is treated with rest, a lot liquids and antipyretics, and if the fever persists, patients should consult their doctor for the next steps to follow.

The influenza vaccine is not easily available in Zakynthos at the moment; however, the population who have been vaccinated has risen.

With regard to prevention measures, he noted that they are no more than the rules of good life, namely proper sleep, good nutrition and physical activity.

Finally, as far as vaccination is concerned, he urged everyone in the vulnerable groups to be vaccinated even now, provided they are well in their health when they recieve the vaccines.

Pharmaceutical Association: There are no vaccines stocked in Zakynthos

Due to this year’s largest number of people being vaccinated during the first wave of vaccination from late October to mid-November and despite the prompts to vaccinate vulnerable groups even now, the influenza vaccine in Zakynthos is in very low supply.

As it has become known by the President of the Pharmaceutical Association, Mr A. Vitsos, in Zakynthos, unfortunately, there aren’t any vaccines available at Pharmacies within Zakynthos, as most have traded a large number of vaccines during the previous months.
