Giostra of Zakynthos a success once again.

Giostra Di Zante’s 3day event came to a close yesterday evening, marking another successful year.

Over the three day period from the 14/6 up until the 16/6, Zakynthos was taken back in time, with the traditional 15th century event held by the organization Giostra Di Zante.  Along with its rich programme of children’s jousting, the Knight of Knights competition,  folk dancing music, medieval events and archery contest Giostra set out to impress.

This year’s international participation was San Marino and Italy from the area of Sulmona and Anversa. The national teams from the Seven Islands included Corfu, Kefalonia and Ithaki.

The children’s giostra was held on Saturday evening with teams from around the island battling for first place, this year’s winner for the second year running goes to Dionysios Komiotis from the team of “Sikolithia” Ambelokipi representing Ithaki.

The Grand Parade followed on Sunday evening with four knights entering the competition this year. The parade was impressive with the medieval costumes and displays by flag bearers, drummers and acrobatics, enough to impress not only Zakynthians, but for our visitors to our Island as well. The battle of the knights was won by Panagiotis Faraos on his impressive black horse.
