Perhaps those who have lived here for many years can remember the tradition of stealing shope signs on Good Friday. The tradition is in relation to the chaos that took place during Christ’s arrest.
The idea was to steal any signs from as many shops, doctor’s, lawyer’s offices anywhere you can find.
The culprits would do this in fun. The signs would be piled up down Solomos square for their owners to find them the next morning. Even a donkey was taken and found grazing in the square.
It’s been many years since this particular tradition has taken place in our square and no one really knows the reason why.
However, in the village of Katastari it seems someone has brought to life the tradition. As custom goes the signs are many. Those who have lost there signs can go and collect them at the local church.
