AstraZeneca: The vaccine recommendations do not change

The recommendations for the AstraZeneca vaccine do not change, as announced during today’s announcements in regards to the AstraZeneca vaccine, the President of the National Vaccination Committee Maria Theodoridou stated.

She then referred to the 5 cases of thrombosis that have been recorded after this vaccine, which were announced a few minutes earlier by the AEO.

“Of these, 4 occurred in women and one in a 35-year-old man. One patient recovered, three were hospitalized and one woman unfortunately died. In comparison, 62 women aged 30-49 were hospitalized in the last two months. In the light of the above, the Commission considers that, first, the benefit outweighs the risk. “Taking into account the epidemiological data and the current spread, it is recommended to continue the vaccination with the current program,” he said.

“The risk is higher in women under 50 and MRNA vaccines are available to people of all ages. Regarding the second dose, it is recommended to continue the vaccination with the same vaccine, as the possibility of thrombosis after the second dose is extremely small “, he added.
