Satisfied with the course of the pandemic in Greece so far, Sotiris Tsiodras presented himself, however, stating that we should not be complacent
Deaths due the coronavirus in Greece have so far reached 26, as announced by Health Ministry infectious disease Sotiris Tsiodras on Thursday afternoon (26/3). In the meantime, 71 are new cases, and 892. In total, 57 of our fellow citizens are still hospitalized in ICUs, while 54 are intubated. At the same time 42 patients were discharged.
The average age of coronavirus deaths in the country is 73 years, according to the infectious disease expert. Of these 21 are men and 5 women, all elderly and with underlying diseases, apart from one incident.
According to Mr. Tsiodras, “we do not have a course like Italy’s. However, if the measures taken so far by the government are lifted, things will change. ” At the same time, Mr. Tsiodoras added that there was no exponential increase. The health ministry’s infectious disease specialist also said that “the course of the epidemic will be commensurate with the containment measures and their compliance”, he said.
Referring to the death of a German professor who visited the University of Crete for seminars, Mr. Tsiodras pointed out that thrombosis had occurred to the patient, stressing that it was a recent phenomenon that was being examined by scientists around the world. However, he stated that this is a rare case.
Mr. Tsiodras reiterated that the message of “Stay Home” does not change. “They are guidelines that help reduce the spread of the virus. Of course, and people with chronic illnesses, the elderly need to seek help early. In the vast majority, however, it remains a mild disease, “he commented.
