Greece:- Coronavirus concerns for Athens and Thessaloniki.

The map of cases – Concern for Athens, Thessaloniki

Every day, new areas are added to the case log with the latest “source” being Pefki where seven positive Serbian tourists were found. A little earlier, another woman in Parga had tested positive. She is a 27-year-old Serb woman who was taken to a quarantine hotel in Preveza. According to SKAI, the woman was in Parga for vacation, while earlier she had undergone a test at the entrance of the country. The test was positive and despite the fact that being asymptomatic, she was taken to the quarantine hotel where she will stay for the next few days.

Among other things, an alarm has been sounded in Thassos, Corfu, Edipsos, Karpathos, Syros, Halkidiki. The geographical distribution of yesterday’s cases showed that the situation in Xanthi is normalizing, while cases were recorded in the Regional Units of Kozani and Imathia.

However, what causes concern is the return to Attica and Thessaloniki. In the last two days, there has been an increase in the number of incidents recorded in the two major urban centres.  Yesterday, Friday, seven new cases were recorded in Attica and eight in Thessaloniki. While the previous day seven and six cases had been reported, respectively. What is of the greatest concern is that some of these are “orphan” cases.  This make it impossible to trace them.

A total of 60 new cases of the new coronavirus were announced on Friday, 40 of which were detected following checks at the country’s gates.

The total number of cases is 3,732, of which 54.5% are men. 962 (25.8%) are considered to be related to travel from abroad.  1962 (52.6%) are related to an already known case.

The distribution of the 60 cases is as follows:

  • forty (40) cases during the checks carried out at the country’s entrance gates,
two (2) imported cases voluntarily submitted for inspection,
one (1) case in the Kozani regional unit,
seven (7) cases in the Attica regional unit,
eight (8) cases in the regional unit of Thessaloniki,
one (1) case in the regional unit of Imathia,
one (1) case in the regional unit of Xanthi
