According to the new announcement of EODY, 168 new cases of mutant strains of the coronavirus in Greece were announced by EODY, but in tests carried out on samples from December 29 to February 2. Now, in our country 397 cases of the British mutation have been found and 6 of the South African mutation, ie a total of 403.
Specifically, in a total of 382 samples that were tested, 166 new cases of the British coronavirus strain and another 2 of the South African strain were found. For another day, half of the coronavirus cases are detected in Attica, with 355 new infections in the last 24 hours, in a total of 733 cases.

The genomic analysis of 382 samples concerning the period December 29 to February 2, 2021 and coming from the Attica Region and the Regional Units of Thessaloniki, Kozani, Lasithio, Heraklion, Ioannina, Alexandroupolis, Serres, Kilkis was completed.
In the total of 382 samples analyzed, all met the strict quality criteria required for analysis and the final test was completed successfully. A total of 168 strains with variants of concern emerged from the control. Of these, 166 samples were positive for the new strain VOC 202012/01 (Lineage B.1.1.7 / UK) and 2 samples were positive for the new strain 20H / 501Y.V2 (Lineage B.1.351 / South Africa).
Specifically, strain VOC 202012/01 (Lineage B.1.1.7 / UK lineage) was detected in:
114 samples from the Attica Region (92 from the community and 22 hospital)
10 samples from. Thessaloniki (4 from the community and 6 hospital)
16 samples from Kozani (all hospital)
16 samples from Lassithi (8 from the community and 8 hospital)
9 samples from Heraklion (5 from the community and 4 hospital)
1 sample from Ioannina (hospital)
Regarding the strain 20H / 501Y.V2 (Lineage B.1.351 / South Africa) was detected in 2 samples from region of Ioannina (hospital).
A total of 397 samples positive for the mutant strain B.1.1.7 / UK lineage and 6 samples for the mutant strain Lineage B.1.351 / South Africa of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been identified in our country.
Note: An incident for the mutated strain B.1.1.7 / UK lineage was removed from the set by the PE of Achaia as it concerned re-examination.
