EXO-CD24, developed at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Medical Center, fights the potentially lethal overreaction of the body’s immune system to Covid-19 which experts say is responsible for many deaths. Hailing a “huge breakthrough,” the hospital said Prof. Nadir Arber’s EXO-CD24 substance had been administered to 30 patients whose conditions were moderate or worse, and all 30 recovered — 29 of them within three to five days. the preparation is directed straight to the heart of the storm — the lungs — so unlike other formulas… which selectively restrain a certain cytokine, or operate widely but cause many serious side effects, EXO-CD24 is administered locally, works broadly and without side effects.”
The medicine is inhaled once a day for a few minutes, for five days.
Greece has now begun clinical trials with the Israeli coronavirus treatment in two hospitals.
The treatment will be administered to a total of 90 patients suffering from mild or moderate Covid-19 infection at the Sotiria and Attikon hospitals in Athens.
Speaking on Mega TV on Wednesday, Mina Gaga, director of the hospital’s 7th pulmonary clinic, said that while more clinical trials are needed to test the safety and efficacy of the drug before it goes mainstream, studies in Israel have so far shown great promise.
More progress in combating the virus
The US Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for youngsters ages 12 to 15 by next week, according to a federal official and a person familiar with the process, setting up shots for many before the beginning of the next school year.
Pfizer’s vaccine is currently approved in the US for people as young as 16.
