Greece:- Ferries increase capacity starting today, 2nd August, 2020.

Ships will be allowed to travel with more passengers from today, Sunday 2 August, as a decision to increase occupancy was published in the Official Government’s Gazette.

While the pandemic seems to be spiking, the decision to increase the occupancy rate on coastal vessels from 65 to 85% is causing a sensation. Keeping a minimum distance of 1.5 meters between the occupants of the boat remains. The passenger and crew cabins can accommodate up to four people if they are first or second degree relatives, or people with disabilities after their escort.

Also, in regards to measures, the ship-owner, the manager and the masters, must plan preparation to cover the aircraft type seats for each ship. Passengers, masters and crew members are required, before boarding, during the voyage, as well as during the disembarkation of the passengers, to comply with the measures for the prevention and treatment of coronavirus cases (For example, passengers (and crew members) are obliged to wear masks in the closed spaces of the vessels), on the passenger and passenger-vehicle ferries operating maritime services, which are posted on the website of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy.

Prerequisite the special filters in the hydrofoils.

In the case of high-speed hydrofoils, occupancy can be increased to 80% (from 50% currently in force), only if they have HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters and if certified, under the responsibility of the ship-owner, the manager and their masters, as well as their government certification bodies, their installation and operation, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Also, with the care of the ship-owner, the manager and the masters, a plan is prepared to cover the aircraft type seats for each ship. Passengers, masters and crew members are required to comply with the coronavirus prevention measures before boarding, during the voyage, and when disembarking passengers.

Fines.

For each violation of the provisions as well as the measures, a fine of 150 euros is imposed on passengers, shipping agents and crew members and a fine of 1,000 euros on the ship-owner, the manager, the masters and the government certification bodies.
