The royal family of the country was forced to return to the Netherlands after just one day stay in Greece, after the public outcry it received in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
King William-Alexander and Queen Maxima traveled to Greece on Friday to take a vacation at the couple’s villa in the Peloponnese, according to the BBC.
However, the royal holiday in the midst of a new partial lockdown caused a lot of negative comments, with the result that the couple, although they did not violate any ban, return on Saturday afternoon.
We saw the reactions of the people within media reports,” they said in a joint statement. “We do not want to leave any shadow over the fact that it is necessary to follow the instructions in order to bring the coronavirus under control. “The discussion about our vacation does not contribute to that,” the statement added.
“It is foolish and incomprehensible,” Jost Sneller, a member of the D-66 party in Mark Rutte’s ruling coalition, had earlier commented on the royal trip.
Coronavirus on the increase in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is facing a strong second wave of pandemics with the country recording a negative record of new cases since the start of the pandemic on Saturday, as 8,000 people became infected with the virus.
In fact, the government announced the closure of bars, restaurants and coffee shops for four weeks.
