Greece:- N. Hardalias, what he said during the emergency briefing

What Nikos Hardalias announced during the special briefing

New measures were announced on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 6, by the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Nikos Hardalias, during the emergency briefing that took place after the rapid increase in coronavirus cases recorded in the country. Nikos Hardalias announced that from Thursday, July 8, standing customers will not be allowed in restaurants, nightclubs and beach bars and then spoke about the stricter penalties that will be imposed on businessmen who do not comply with health protocols. As he pointed out, padlocks will be placed on nightclubs when violations are detected.

Strict fines for offenders

More specifically, Nikos Hardalias announced that from Thursday, July 8, all restaurants will operate only with seated customers and with the rules given by the Ministry of Development. Regarding the fines that will be imposed on the offenders – shopkeepers stressed that there is even a revocation of the operating license for the offenders continuously, while the first violation provides for an immediate temporary “padlock”

He announced in more detail: “All companies that are controlled and violate the terms will be closed from the next day of the violation for 7 days. In case of a second violation, a fine of 10,000 euros and a padlock for 15 days will be imposed. In the third violation, the operating license will be revoked “.

Detailed fines for offenders

The fines for the companies – offenders are defined in detail as follows:

For shops under 200 sqm, a fine of 2,000 euros and an immediate padlock is imposed, from the very next day and for 7 days

For stores over 200 sqm, a fine of 5,000 euros is imposed and immediate suspension of operation for 7 days.

In case of a second violation, a fine of 5,000 euros (regardless of sq.m.) is imposed and the padlock will be valid for 15 days.

In case of a third violation, the license of the store must be revoked.

Increase in cases among young people – especially in the Southern Sector of Athens

As Nikos Hardalias said, “in the last 10 days, according to EODY, there has been a significant drop in the average age of coronavirus cases, which now reaches 27 years. At the same time, an increase has been observed in cases belonging to known cases, while 32% of the recorded cases report as a possible source of exposure, gathering outside.

Hundreds of cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, which after investigation are focused on entertainment venues. Indicatively in the Southern Sector of Athens – where 66% of the cases are aged 15-24 years – and more specifically in the Municipalities of Alimos and Glyfada today, Tuesday, there was a positive of 6.1% and 8.4% respectively.

Concern about Delta mutation

Mr. Hardalias also referred to the Delta mutation, which threatens those citizens who have not been vaccinated. In particular, he said: “As long as 40% of adults remain unvaccinated, the Delta mutation indirectly and directly threatens their health. Let me give you another crucial fact: in the last quarter we studied in detail the ICU hospitalizations and the deaths due to COVID were among the ages 60-80. The conclusion is that 99% of the serious cases that unfortunately end up hospitalized are those who are unvaccinated, while they have the possibility to be vaccinated.

Vaccination and now

That’s the message for a safe and free summer: get vaccinated right away, especially the younger ones who are enjoying social activity. There are immediately tens of thousands of vaccination appointments available for anyone who decides to get vaccinated now.

All young people aged 18-30 and all public and private sector workers who have not been vaccinated are eligible for 4 self-tests for the month of July which can be obtained directly from pharmacies until July 10. We emphasize here that 60% of positive cases are detected thanks to self tests. “Regular diagnosis is very important and should become part of the daily routine, especially of those who have not yet completed their vaccination.”
