Greece:- Shipping strike continues for another 24Hrs.

To proceed with a new 24-hour nationwide strike mobilization in all categories of shipping, with the prospect of escalation, from 00:01 in the early hours of Thursday, February 25 to midnight of the same day, decided today the presidents of 13 seafaring unions, after today with the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Giannis Plakiotakis.

The relevant proposal is expected to be approved in the next few hours by the competent boards of the unions that will meet extraordinarily for this purpose.

 

The 13 seafarers’ unions participating in the mobilization are: the Panhellenic Union of Masters, the Panhellenic Union of Engineers, the Panhellenic Union of Sailors, the Panhellenic Union of Archalamalapolis – Thalamipoli, the Panhellenic Union of Junior Crew Engineers EN “O” STEFNIA the Panhellenic Association of Electricians – Electronics, the Panhellenic Association of Financial Officers, the Panhellenic Association of Engineers MEK EN, the Panhellenic Association of Catering Personnel, the Panhellenic Association of Catering Personnel, the Panhellenic Association of Sailors M / S / G / K / Practical Masters-Governors.

The seafarers’ unions, which are already on a 48-hour strike from 00.01 in the early hours of Tuesday 23 February and which ends today at 12 midnight, are demanding the abolition of the regulations which, as they report, are a blow to the institution of Collective Labor Agreements, but also to working hours. work and rest.

“We have raised in the strike the controversial issue concerning law 4714/2020, which seeks to abolish the Collective Bargaining Agreements, social security and trade union rights for all self-employed people,” they said in a statement.

They also add that “the Minister of Shipping clarified to them that he is not taking a step back for the specific law, stating that these regulations constitute a one-way street to curb the leakage of seagoing ships from the national – Greek register”.

“We call on the seafarers to continue the strike with the same fighting will and determination, to guard it in the most effective way”, emphasize the 13 seafarers’ unions that have planned for tomorrow’s gathering at 10.00 am. outside the ship “BLUE STAR DELOS” (opposite the Piraeus Power Station in the port of Piraeus).

Most ferry companies due to the new 24-hour mobilization are expected to proceed with changes and modifications of itineraries, while those who travel, it is advisable to contact the local port authorities and travel agencies before their departure.
