Greece:- The health authorities and the Government are particularly concerned about the incoming cases of coronavirus from the northern borders,

We can even reduce the risk of the epidemic spreading, epidemiologists say. But even if strict measures are not taken, we will face a significant problem.

The health authorities and the Government are particularly concerned about the incoming cases of coronavirus from the northern borders, the impact of which on the population is expected to be seen within the next 15 days.

According to epidemiologists, the situation still seems manageable and the government has the reflexes to act quickly and may need to take strict measures to avoid a new dynamic rise in the epidemic.

New Cases.

In the last 8 days we have 142 new imported cases, most of them from Promachonas. Their rapid detection has also led to a reduction in dispersion, but how many more cases remain “hidden” is unknown. This is expected in the coming days and until the end of next week.

In recent days we have also seen an increase in cases in various areas. The likelihood of these cases being contacts of imported asymptomatic cases is high. So by studying the data, corresponding measures should be taken now that it is still early. We will certainly not have a “prohibition” and quarantine on a large scale, but it is very likely that the entry of tourists from more countries will expand.

Tests.

As the government spokesman, Stelios Petsas, underlined yesterday, the control system so far has been working well. In 31,169 tests performed at all entry gates in the country from 1 to 6 July 2020, 100 were positive, ie only 0.3%.

However, it is particularly important regarding the concern to mention that today, Friday, a teleconference is planned for the implementation of the Operational Plan of controls at the entrance gates of the country, under the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Palace. Officials from the Security Forces and the Armed Forces are also involved in the plan, in order to strengthen the potential of the mixed ranks, under the operational coordination of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection.

Teleconference.

The teleconference will be attended by the Minister of Civil Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis, the Minister of National Defense Nikos Panagiotopoulos, the Minister of Health Vassilis Kikilias, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Giannis Plakiotakis Nikos Hardalias, Minister of Health and Crisis Management, Vassilis Kontozamanis, Deputy Minister of Health, Akis Skertsos, Deputy Minister for Coordination of Government Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister for Coordination; the Secretary General of Public Health Panagiotis Prezerakos, the General Secretary of the Coordination of Internal Policies Thanassis Kontogeorgis, the Chief of General Staff Konstantinos Floros, the Chief of the Hellenic Police Michael Oraikis Karamialakis Alekomadokas Kokiodokas – The Chief of the Coast Guard Michalis Bekiris, Director of the Prime Minister’s Office in the Parliament, Panagiotis Arkoumaneas, President of EODY, and Kimonas Drakopoulos, Professor of Data Science and Operations. The presentation of the plan and the distribution of forces by all the Corps will be done by Mr. Hardalias and elements of the operation of the Targeted Sampling System, by Mr. Drakopoulos.

Plans ahead.

It should be mentioned that yesterday, within the framework of the EODY program “KOMY Mobile Health Groups”, the implementation of the electronic event management system of the KOMY network was presented. The president of EODY, Mr. Panagiotis Arkoumaneas, that the role of mobile units “is the most important program that has taken place during the period of dealing with the coronavirus system at a pan-European level”.

He also said that more than 3,900 missions and more than 75,000 tests have been carried out on welfare structures, municipalities and added that the strength of the Mobile Health Teams is constantly increasing and may exceed the number of 500 vehicles.

The President of EODY also referred to the new innovative management system of the KOMY fleet, with which the Organization can control in real time, where the units are located and what specific incidents must be controlled. With the electronic event management system, it is possible with a simple scan to reduce the time to 90% and at the same time to be registered in the central database, taking into account the Ministry of Health and the Government.

The last 24 hours.

Finally, on Thursday afternoon, the National Agency for Public Health announced that the new laboratory confirmed cases of the disease are 50, of which 24 were imported. The total number of cases is 3672.

From January 1, 2020 until today, in the laboratories that carry out inspections for the new virus (SARS-CoV-2) and that systematically declare to EODY all the samples that are tested (positive and negative), a total of 358725 clinical samples have been tested, from of which 5839 (1.6%) were positive for coronavirus disease (including more than one sample per person tested). Of the above total samples, 38729 (10.8%) relate to sampling on incoming flights (as of June 12). Of these, 78 (0.2%) were positive for covid-19.
