Greece:- Tourism, A difficult summer, Health Minister asks tourists to abide health protocols.

A gloomy 2020 summer for Greek tourism is outlined by a survey of major tourist markets, according to which only one in four participants said they were willing to travel abroad in the July-September quarter!

This is a study by Mindhaus in collaboration with the Pollfish research platform, the results of which are presented by the Greek newspaper “Kathimerini tis Kyriakis”. The survey was conducted on June 25 on a sample of 3,000 people who had planned a trip abroad for 2020, from the markets of the United States, Britain, France, Germany and Italy.

Potential customers in Greece are worried about the possibility of getting sick, are afraid of the inconvenience of flying and hotels, are beginning to show signs of limiting their disposable income, and most of those planning to travel are not expecting to do so before from the fall.

This is if there is no second wave of pandemics that will intensify their concerns and worsen their financial situation. Only one in four is willing to travel in July-September (which is the rest of the tourist season in Greece). But even this category seems to be discouraged by the unprecedented conditions of travel.

In particular, 24.7% of the total sample stated that they consider it more likely to make an international leisure trip within the next quarter (July, August, September) and 32.9% from October to the end of the year.

Regarding Greece as a first-line destination, the main conclusion of the research is to strengthen its position in the preference of foreign markets and the feeling of security.

Theofilos Kyratsoulis, general manager of Mindhaus, commenting on the findings of the survey, said: “It is clear that this year will be extremely difficult in terms of Greek tourism. It is now considered a success to achieve 15% of revenue compared to last year. . The great desire for leisure travel and the strengthened position of Greece can be extremely difficult to translate into demand as long as the pandemic is in progress, travel restrictions have not been completely lifted and competition is pressing. ”

It is recalled that according to the Bank of Greece, travel revenues last year reached 18.15 billion euros – a record – compared to 16.08 billion in 2018 and 14.63 billion in 2017.

Meanwhile the Greek Health Minister, Mr Vasilis Kikilias stated:-

“I would like to urge and ask the tourists to observe the health protocols, as we, Greeks, did.  Also adding that Greeks observed the measures and proved that the country has succeeded; it has become an example to be imitated.

“We do not want to spoil it now; therefore I am asking tourists to do the same. Respect our country, which is very beautiful, and adhere to the medical protocols and rules we have set, so that we have the smallest possible number of cases.”
