The Greek Air Force ‘clocked up’ more than 220 flying hours – beyond their main operational mission – in order to transport, mainly, residents of the islands of the Aegean and the Ionian Seas, to hospitals in urban centres, but also performing search and rescue missions, as well as fire fighting.
As announced by the GEA, aircraft C-27j, C-130 and helicopters Super Puma and AB-205 executed 74 missions in March to transport 102 patients to hospitals in urban centres, completing 188.2 hours of flight.
At the same time, the CL-215 aircraft and the Super Puma and AB-205 helicopters carried out 12 missions for land and sea search and rescue locating 2 missing persons. Completing 24.6 hours of flight.
In addition, fire-extinguishing planes performed 4 exits (three CL-415 and one CL-215) to extinguish fires, completing 11.3 hours of flight.
Two aircraft C-130, 1 helicopter Super Puma and 1 CL-415 and CL-415 CL-215 aircraft were available yesterday, 04/04, to airlift patients, search and rescue missions and fire fighting.
Meanwhile, on 04/04, two C-130 aircraft were used to transport a newborn and a patient from Hios and Limnos respectively to the Elefsina air base by completing 3.4 hours of flight in 2 missions.
At the same time, 1 CL-415 aircraft and one Super Puma helicopter took off participating in the search to locate the 65-year-old missing fisherman in Agiokambos Larissa. The planes made 3 exits, completing 7.7 hours of flight.
At the same time two CL-415 fire-fighting planes were involved in the efforts to extinguish the fire in Strofilia, Ilia.
