Today the Greek community church of St. Constantine and Santa Helena was opened in Cairo in Egypt by Dr Khalid Enani, Minister of Antiquities, on behalf of President of the Republic. The church was built over a hundred years ago but had been closed for two years for important restoration works.
A number of representatives were present at today’s opening, including representatives of the Greek Church, the Deputy Education Minister, Cypriot church representatives, His Highness Theodoros II – Patriarch of Alexandria and Africa, numerous Ambassadors based in Cairo, and the Head of the Cairo Greek community.
The important ceremony that has helped strengthen already strong ties between Egypt and Greece, began with a Greek Orthodox mass conducted in line with the rites of the Greek Orthodox Church.
