What if it is mid of June? 6,250 lightning bolts fell on Tuesday, June 12, across the country, while thunderstorm with heavy rain- and hail-fall stroke suburbs of Athens and the broader Attica area on Tuesday afternoon. Earlier, another wave of rain had disturbed air traffic in international Airport Eleftherios Venizelos with the effect that flights were diverted to other airports or were delayed.

In suburbs like Rizoupoli and Bournazi in the West, streets turned into rivers and basements were flooded.
However, the Greek capital was not the only Greek region hit by the bad weather front.
In Tripoli, Central Peloponnese, it needed a hail storm of half an hour to destroy thousands of acres of agriculture.

The weather front came from the North, where hail storm stroke also Polygyros Municipality in Halkidiki, damaging the crops.
According to meteo.grr, the National Observatory of Athens recorded 6,250 lightning bolts until 8:30 pm on Tuesday. Majority of them fell in Peloponnese, Sterea, Epirus and Rhodes.

Rain and thunderstorms in regions of the mainland, the islands of Eastern Aegean Sea, Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, the mountainous areas of Crete and possibly also the Dodecanese as of noon and early afternoon.
Locally the phenomena will be intense and will be accompanied by hailstorms mostly in the North.
Late in the evening, rains and storms might be strong in the Northwest Aegean Sea, affecting areas of Halkidiki, Thessaloniki, Pieria and Imathia.
Temperatures up to 32 degrees Celsius.
The weather will remain unstable in the next days, however, with temperature rise up to 37 c.
