Mr Tsoukalas had been away in Athens with his wife since December 16th, and when he returned home on January 9th, he noticed what had happened … It was not obvious at first what had happened. Loading the clothes from our car, I saw the window open and realized that the house had been opened. Going forward I saw that the rest of the houses, the patio and the other apartments were open with the keys to the door, “Mr Tsoukalas told local newspaper .HMERA

The perpetrators entered the estate through a gate, which they literally removed from its place and then drove their truck in the yard to collect the what ever they could. In total the damage to the owner and his family amounts to 5,000 euros, with Mr Tsoukalas reporting on what disappeared from his home and apartments. “We got three Eipirotikes rugs stolen. They took tools from the workshop. Chainsaws, cutters etc. and whatever was heavy that was of use to them. In the cellar also the door was open and I saw that all the olive oil containers were missing. The total amount of olive oil missing was 500-600 kg. Along with the INOX storage tanks, olive oil that is estimated at 2,000 euros only. ‘

Mr Tsoukalas also spoke about the issue of policing in the area, since it is almost non-existent with the neighbourhood being deserted and homes becoming targets for prospective perpetrators. “In my estimation, the police had to have the power to cover the whole county, with patrols, at night and in the morning, so that fear would be put into possible criminals. Most of the police force is concentrated in Athens, but there are other areas that remain unattended. ”

In order to protect Mr Tsoukalas, he is expected to equip his home with cameras and alarm systems to make sure he does not fall victim to burglars again in the future.
