An impressive and at the same time unusual spectacle was encountered by those who found themselves on the beach of Tsilivi in Zakynthos.
It seems hundreds of jelly fish have washed up on the shore.
According to information, there are two species of jelly fish that visit Zakynthos at this time. Rhizostoma pulmo and Pelagia Noctiluca. The second type is visually and the most impressive since it has a purple colour and is what was found on the east coast of Zakynthos, making an impression on passers-by. The swimming ability of Pelagia noctiluca is limited and as a result large swarms (also known as blooms) of this oceanic species are occasionally carried by the wind or current to inshore areas, sometimes ending up stranded on beaches.
The beautiful beach of the tourist resort of Tsilivi is a pole of attraction for Greek and foreign visitors during the summer months. According to experts, the phenomenon is explained at this time, probably due to the change in temperature, with the currents washing the jelly fish to the shores.
Video.
The young men in the video explain that they were planing to run along the beach but unfortunately wherever they stepped the sand was full of jelly fish.
When asked if they had ever seen anything like it before. they stated “I have never seen anything like this, they are everywhere. I think last time I saw a similar thing was in Kalamaki”. another saying “this is something of a first, they are all along the beachfront”.
