Kammenos calls on ND to proceed with MPs mass resignation to block Prespes

Head of ANEL Panos Kammenos has called on the leader of main opposition Kyriakos Mitsotakis, New Democracy, to proceed with the resignation of his lawmakers before the Prespes Agreement vote scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The former junior coalition partner of Alexis Tsipras called for the resignation of 101 lawmakers in order to block the ratification of the Macedonia deal between Greece and FYROM.

“Until 2 o’ clock we can block the Prespes ratification with the resignation of 101 MPs, I sign my resignation first, Mr Mitsotakis, prove that you will not be comfortable with the efialtes* vote. RESIGNATION NOW,” Kammenos tweeted at 11 o’ clock.

Prompt and angry was the reply by the main opposition party, with ND sources to describe Kammenos’ mass resignations call as “nonsense!”

“Kammenos resignation is welcome,” the sources told media adding that “nothing will change if dozens of MPs resign.”

Kammenos also proved he had “no idea about the Greek Constitution that provides that the Parliament is not automatically resolved and snap elections do not take place even if all opposition lawmakers resign,” the sources added.

The leader of ANEL is desperately trying to save his party parliamentary group, after he expelled MPs for declaring that they favor the Prespes Agreement. He is currently with 4 MPs, with one of them to have implied that he will vote Yes.

According to public opinion polls of the last year, ANEL will hardly manage to reach the threshold of 3% and enter the Parliament should elections take place next Sunday, next month or anytime in 2019.
