Kerameos: The goal is for the schools to open on May 10 – In June the pan-Hellenic University exams

The self tests and the vaccinations of the teachers will give the “green light” for the opening of the other levels of education (primary – high schools). According to what the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, stated  to TV station Open. “Now what is happening”, the intention of the government is that after the Easter holidays all levels of education will reopen. Now as the most probable date to open schools is set for Monday 10th May.

Education Minister Niki Kerameos described self-tests as an important tool, as almost 600 students and teachers tested positive for the virus. She also referred to the Voucher program, saying that

335,000 applications were approved. At the same time stating that the children have returned to school safely. She also said that the government’s goal is to open Primary and Secondary Schools after Easter, while she also spoke about the school exams, internships and the extension of the school year. She also stated that many changes are coming in the new school year with new thematic activities.

In any case, the issue of the opening of the other school levels will be discussed after Easter, by the experts. The suggestions will be made based on the picture of the course of the pandemic. Parents should not hope for the time being for the opening of the schools (after all, the Easter holidays will start in a few days). The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, stated, “not before Easter. The opening of the high schools, we are going step by step. “Distance education for other ages continues normally.”

What will happen with the extension of the school year, the school and the Panhellenic exams.

Another scenario that seems increasingly likely for schools is the extension of the school year. The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, emphasizes that the possibility for an extension is open, until end of June, but this will be decided in the next period of time.

As for the school exams and whether they will be cancelled, the minister stressed that decisions will be made in the near future. “We are looking into it,” he said. The Minister of Education, speaking on the same issue in SKAI, supported the issue under discussion. “The relevant decisions were announced later last year,” she said, hinting that the matter would probably be closed in two weeks from today, perhaps immediately after Easter Sunday. “We are waiting to see what will happen to the Gymnasiums, when they will open, the decisions will be announced in due time,” he added.

According to the same sources, the decision to cancel will not be taken lightly, and all possibilities will be “weighed”, as for thousands of students it will be the second year that they will not be evaluated with the “traditional” system of exams.

The start of the Panhellenic Exams will be in June, according to Mrs. Kerameos, something that will be decided in the near future, while the foreign language exams being done with terms and self test.

She said that the decision of the experts is expected for the churches. “Maybe we have changes for Easter. “Outdoor spaces may also be used”, she noted.
