Eurogroup chief Mario Centeno opened a window for the possibility that the measure to broaden the tax-free basis may not be implemented as of 2020.
Speaking to daily ethnos and private TV Open, Centeno said that if Greece meets its fiscal goals, the issue may be again on the table.
The measure has to be considered very carefully according to the goals Greece will be achieving, Centeto reportedly said.
The measure to tax annual incomes of below 6,000 euros was forced into Greece by the International Monetary Fund.
Regarding primary surpluses, he ruled out negotiations to reduce them. However, he said that the only possibility to discuss the issue would be if the European economic situation does not allow the primary surpluses to be achieved.
Like the chief of European Stability Mechanism Klaus Regling last week, Centeno advocated the premature repayment of the “expensive” IMF loans.
