Minister sends a special “Thank you ” to port authority at Kyllini.

His warmest congratulations to the two Harbour Authority’s Guardsmen at Kyllini Port Authority, Theodoros Kaltsas and Panagiotis Mourtzini, gave the Minister of Maritime and Island Policy, Giannis Plakiotakis,. In particular because of the adverse weather conditions, the Fior di Levante passenger ferry of the Levante Ferries company encountered problems at the port of Kyllini, coming from Kefalonia, during the disembarkation of passengers and vehicles.

A sharp shift of the ship due to the weather forced a car, which was on the ramp at the time into the gap between the pier and the ramp of the ship, causing the driver’s life to be in immediate danger. The two crewmembers rushed and rescued the driver before the vehicle slid into the sea.

Mr Plakiotakis emphasized in particular the fact that the two Coast Guard officers rushed to rescue the driver despite the serious risk of their own life.
“On the occasion of this event,” he noted, “I want to emphasize not only the morality, but also the self-denial with which every day, from one end of Greece to the other, the officers of the Coast Guard, women and men, exaggerate themselves to carry out their mission.

For this reason, “he concluded,” the State has a duty to do whatever it can to enhance their efforts by all appropriate measures and means. ”
