Today, Zakynthian Mayor Nikita Aretakis and the island’s Member of parliament, Dionysips Aktipis, held a crucial meeting with “Mesogeios SA” spokesman and the YPEN General Secretary of Waste Management.
The appointment concerned the problems that have arisen in the matter of Zakynthos’ waste, both in its collection and in the management throughout the whole island.
Tons of rubbish has accumulated in many places in town but also in the villages
This meeting had a positive (until proven otherwise) result after it was decided to continue the collection of waste from the roads in the next few days and transport it to Liva to clean up the island (as far as possible).
At the same time, ways to transport waste from Zakynthos to the landfill of Triantafyllia in Hlia, on the mainland are being explored.
Important is the decision to fund the creation of a new cell in Liva.
Equally important is what emerged from the Local MP Dionysios Aktipis’ environment, about actions to be taken to procure new intermediate solution machinery to assist the existing situation and management.
A new baler needs to be supplied and that was the main purpose.
The big problem at the moment is hearing the words “stacked bunk waste” which is already in the area and should be removed as soon as possible.
The authorities should act immediately within good spirit of co-operation and understanding.
However, a positive sign is that all sides agree that actions should be taken immediately to “get the rubbish off the streets for Christmas”, which they consider to be feasible.
