With 2 mandatory self tests per week that must be performed by both students and teachers, the Lyceums will open throughout the country from Monday, April 12, as officially announced by the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos during the regular information on the course of the coronavirus from the Ministry of Health on Wednesday afternoon. Students will thus be able to go to school only with a negative test and a responsible statement from the parent. Regarding the opening of the other tiers, she clarified that the government wants them to open on April 19.
How schools will open
According to what the Minister of Education said, the General and Vocational High Schools of the whole country start the classes in the classroom again, observing all the measures such as:
the obligatory use of a mask indoors and outdoors,
different breaks for groups of students,
fixed groups of students in sports and other activities,
the use of antiseptics,
meticulous cleaning,
regular ventilation of the premises, especially now that the good weather helps,
the special measures for adapted operation of canteens, computer labs, use of musical instruments etc.
In addition, another important preventive measure is added to the existing ones:
conducting a self-coronavirus test twice a week for every high school student and teacher, in order to ensure the maximum possible protection of the educational community. The tests will be necessary for school attendance on Monday and Thursday. Under their AMKA, high school students and teachers will receive two free tests each week from the pharmacy.
How will the self tests be done
The self-test is provided for both students and teachers. Regarding the Schools of Special Education, the self-test is obligatory for the teachers while there is a strong recommendation for the test to be performed on the students.
The steps for conducting the self test are as follows:
Parents, guardians, students and teachers will receive the self-test free of charge, along with information material from the pharmacy, using their AMKA. The first test can be taken by high school students and teachers from tomorrow in Athens-Thessaloniki and from Friday in the rest of the country. From next Monday they will be able to take the 2nd test.
Students / teachers will do self-tests at home. It is recommended that the test be done the same morning or the night before. So the first test can be done on Sunday night or Monday morning.
Parents, students and teachers will declare the result of the self-test through the platform self-testing.gov.gr, in which they will enter with the codes taxisnet, entering specific data, such as patronymic, patronymic, AMKA and the result of the self-test .
