Kerameos: With 2 mandatory self tests per week the opening of schools.

What did the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos, say about the opening of the schools and the process of self tests that students and teachers should do?

With 2 mandatory self tests per week that must be performed by both students and teachers, the Lyceums will open throughout the country from Monday, April 12, as officially announced by the Minister of Education, Niki Kerameos during the regular information on the course of the coronavirus from the Ministry of Health on Wednesday afternoon. Students will thus be able to go to school only with a negative test and a responsible statement from the parent. Regarding the opening of the other tiers, she clarified that the government wants them to open on April 19.

How schools will open

According to what the Minister of Education said, the General and Vocational High Schools of the whole country start the classes in the classroom again, observing all the measures such as:

the obligatory use of a mask indoors and outdoors,

different breaks for groups of students,
fixed groups of students in sports and other activities,
the use of antiseptics,
meticulous cleaning,
regular ventilation of the premises, especially now that the good weather helps,
the special measures for adapted operation of canteens, computer labs, use of musical instruments etc.

In addition, another important preventive measure is added to the existing ones:

conducting a self-coronavirus test twice a week for every high school student and teacher, in order to ensure the maximum possible protection of the educational community. The tests will be necessary for school attendance on Monday and Thursday. Under their AMKA, high school students and teachers will receive two free tests each week from the pharmacy.

How will the self tests be done

The self-test is provided for both students and teachers. Regarding the Schools of Special Education, the self-test is obligatory for the teachers while there is a strong recommendation for the test to be performed on the students.

The steps for conducting the self test are as follows:

Parents, guardians, students and teachers will receive the self-test free of charge, along with information material from the pharmacy, using their AMKA. The first test can be taken by high school students and teachers from tomorrow in Athens-Thessaloniki and from Friday in the rest of the country. From next Monday they will be able to take the 2nd test.
Students / teachers will do self-tests at home. It is recommended that the test be done the same morning or the night before. So the first test can be done on Sunday night or Monday morning.
Parents, students and teachers will declare the result of the self-test through the platform self-testing.gov.gr, in which they will enter with the codes taxisnet, entering specific data, such as patronymic, patronymic, AMKA and the result of the self-test .

We are gradually opening the schools safely “

As Ms. Kerameos commented during her speech, “Throughout the pandemic, the Institute for Educational Policy issues guidelines and instructions to our teachers regarding the coverage of the material given the suspension of the living operation of our schools. . Instructions for Primary Education were issued last month and new instructions for Secondary Education are issued within the week. We are systematically discussing with the Committee of Specialists about the other educational structures, and we hope to be able to reopen the lifelong learning process for them as well “.

We are opening schools gradually and safely. We warmly thank our experts for their tireless efforts, scientific advice, and continued support. We warmly thank all our health workers who give day and night a fight for all of us. But we also thank the pupils, students, their parents and of course our teachers, for the huge effort they have made all this time, who overcame difficulties and contributed decisively in order to continue the educational process as smoothly as possible. During this time, thanks to the catalytic efforts of the entire educational community, a leap forward was made in the digital world of education.

We are coming to build on this leap of digitization, with 112 million euros, from the first of the Recovery Fund, which will be used to enable 560,000 young people to strengthen their technological equipment, to build together on the digital skills that have been given this space and everyone can participate in the enrichment of lifelong learning with digital tools that is taking place now. In the platform digital-access.gov.gr you will find all the relevant information about the grant of 200 euros given to our young people to strengthen their participation in the digital transformation of education. “In just 2 days of operation of the platform, more than 85,000 applications have been approved”, said the minister.

Concluding her speech, Mrs. Kerameos noted the following: “I close with the following thought: despite the fatigue, despite the fatigue that is completely understandable and we all experience it, the more faithfully we observe the measures for a while, the closer we come to normalcy, in overcoming the pandemic faster. As for the opening of High schools, the government wants them to open a week later, that is, on April 19. “
