Stephanos Tsitsipas loves Zakynthos.

Those who are into sport would probably need no introduction to this young Greek man, his name?

Stephanos Tsitsipas and as he continued to defeat his opponents and make his mark at the Australian Open, people wanted to find out more about him. It was the match against Roger Federer that found him at the frontline of the media not only locally but worldwide, Federer himself mentioned that this young star will surely go high among the ranks of the world’s best.

However did you know that this brilliant your tennis star has visited Zakynthos? Not only has he visited the Island he claims he just loves the place.

In an interview a month before the Australian Open he mentioned about taking time out to rest, here’s what he said:-

“The truth is that because of my tennis obligations unfortunately I do not manage to make frequent holidays in Greece. Particularly the wonderful Greek summer is something I miss very much and when I have a little time I try to enjoy it. My last summer tour in Greece was a week in Zakynthos, two years ago.

Zakynthos I had visited before, I was much younger,  being a child, but as I experienced it in the summer of 2016,  I will never forget it and I just can’t wait to go again.

The reason for my trip there was the invitation we had from our family friends, to stay at their cottage for a whole week. The timing for me was excellent, as just a few days before I had conquered in Wimbledon as a new athlete in one of the most special moments of my career, and I was looking for the ideal landscape to relax for a few days. Zakynthos had the whole package.

The peacefulness of Zakynthos made a special impression on me, as I felt that my soul really could calm down. The blue waters of the Ionian Sea offered me what I wanted, while all the beaches I visited left me with my mouth open in awe. I was not able to get myself to the Shipwreck, but the sea excursion to the Blue Caves was a lifetime experience that I will not forget among the places I have travelled.

The traditional food and desserts of the island, like the “fitoures”, was something that I couldn’t say no to. Besides, with the few days I have,  and with the opportunity to be in Greece, I always feel happy with Greek food and Zakynthos was no exception to the rule.

Finally, as far as night life is concerned, I will definitely suggest to those who find themselves on the island to take a walk in Bochali, where they will have the whole island at their feet, a picture I will never forget. “
