Summer strikes at UK airports

Unite union have announced that a number of strikes will take place at UK airports this summer.

Heathrow Airport

A dispute of pay means that around 4,000 Heathrow Airport employees, including drivers, engineers, passenger service operatives, and security guards at will go on strike on the following dates:

26 July and 27 July

5 August and 6 August

23 August and 24 August

There is a concern over the ability to keep the airport open but Heathrow bosses have stated that they will implement airport contingency plans to ensure the airport continues to operate and remains open in these dates.

Stanstead Airport

A potential strike by EasyJet check in staff has been announced, affecting Stanstead airport. If the strike goes ahead the airport will see 17 days of action from Thursday 25 July, continuing into, and during, the school summer holidays.

UK union Unite made the announcement this week, apologising to passengers who may be affected by the forthcoming action. The strikes have been called over a long and ongoing pay dispute.

The strikes action comes after members of the Unite union members have backed strike action across eight different strike ballots, meaning that further airports may also be affected this summer.

As with all travel disruption, if you are concerned, you should contact your airline before travel to see if you will be affected.
