The Volunteer Group of Zakynthos are in the process of setting up a traditional library in the sense of every word. On their Face Book page they explain exactly their plan and where the idea originated, below is a caption of what they aim to do.
After the Island of Syros…. now Zakynthos! The whole idea was launched by Kimolos and the Kimolists – The Kimolos Voluntary Group. We adopt the idea of small, free, autonomous traditional (respecting the traditional style of each space), libraries. We have already begun the process; we have found space, books and wood for the handmade library and will soon be setting up the first one in the village of GIRI. These libraries will be set up in the traditional villages of our island; they will be accessible to all residents and will be placed in central locations that are easily accessible, after obtaining the relevant permission from the local councils. There will be books that will be donated by our volunteer friends, in which will refer to the history of our country for the most part, and children’s books according to how many children each village has. It is an effort of the Voluntary Group of Zakynthos team that wants to offer the most to these remote traditional villages that often their residents either do not have the financial ability to buy books or have the means to go to the Public Library to borrow them and read them. When these libraries are built and handed over to the residents, there will also be a mini feast for the residents to celebrate, cleaning of the area will be by the volunteers, but also a briefing on recycling, sharing multi-purpose bags and more.
So, there you have it, if you are interested in helping please contact the Volunteer Group Of Zakynthos, you can message them on their Face book page known as Εθελοντική ομάδα Ζακύνθου the link is provided below.
