Reports from local media in Greece state that the Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos signed a decree today making the Hollywood actor Tom Hanks an honorary Greek Citizen. This kind of honour is normally granted to people who the Greek Government feel have “provided exceptional services to the country” or whose being made a citizen would “serve public interest.”
Well known for his love of Greece, and being married to Rita Wilson who is herself of Greek descent, the actor and filmmaker often supports and posts about Greece on his twitter account, as well as spending time at their holiday home Antiparos in the Cyclades with his family.
Congratulations to Mr. Hanks and we hope he enjoys his status as honorary Greek Citizen!
