Tourism:- IATA:- What travellers are concerned about on flights

According a report by Proto Thema Greece , the World Air Transport Association recently did a survey on what are the concerns of travellers flying to their destinations.

Main Concerns.

The main concerns of travellers regarding the risk of infection by the coronavirus on the flight are presented by the World Air Transport Association (IATA) based on the findings of a survey conducted in 11 countries in the first week of June 2020.

Travellers take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the coronavirus with 77% reporting that they wash their hands more often, 71% that they avoid large gatherings and 67% that they wear a face mask in public. 58% said they had avoided flights and 33% said they would avoid travelling in the future to reduce the chance of contracting the virus

Travellers have highlighted their major concerns about air travel, which are a priority.

At the airport.

  1. The presence on a train or bus full of people to transport to the aircraft (59%)

  1. Check queues, security checks, cross-border checks or boarding (42%)

  1. The use of toilet facilities (38%)

On the plane.

  1. The position next to someone who may be a case of coronavirus (65%)

  1. The use of toilet facilities (42%)

  1. The air in the cabin of the aircraft (37%)

Measures.

As for the measures that would make them feel safer, 37% reported recording body temperature at departure airports, 34% the mask obligation and 33% the social distance on the aircraft.

Travellers intend to play a role in flight safety by doing the following:

– To undergo a body temperature test (43%)

– Wear masks during the trip (42%)

-Check online to limit interaction with others at the airport (40%)

– Take a covid-19 test before the trip (39%)

-To disinfect their position (38%)

Hightlighted key issues.

Furthermore, the survey highlighted key issues regarding the restoration of travellers’ confidence in the industry, with the most important being…

– The air quality in the cabin | While 57% believe that air quality in flights is a dangerous factor, 55% believe that this air is as clean as a hospital.

– Social distancing | Governments advise wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible, as in public transport.

In addition, although the passengers on the flights sit close to each other, the air flow in the cabin starts from the ceiling and is directed towards the floor, limiting the possible spread of viruses or bacteria in the cabin.

While 45% said they would return to travel within a few months of the pandemic receding, that rate in April 2020 was 61%.

Overall, the survey shows that people have not lost their holiday mood, but there are still obstacles to restoring demand.

The majority of travellers surveyed said that as soon as the pandemic subsided, they planned to travel to meet family members and friends (57%), on vacation (56%) or for business reasons (55%). ).

But 66% will travel less for holidays and business after the pandemic, and 64% will postpone travel until economic factors improve, both personally and more broadly. One of the most serious travel obstacles at this time is quarantine.

Eighty-five percent of those surveyed said they were concerned about quarantine during the trip, which is similar to those who are worried that they may become infected with coronavirus (84%). or after the pandemic, only 17% would like to be quarantined.
