The new social tourism program (πρόγραμμα του κοινωνικού τουρισμού) has been announced, which differs significantly from previous years.
Initially, 113,000 cheques were extended to older beneficiaries, who can now redeem them by the end of October, with the new program taking effect on 1 August.
The number of beneficiaries now stands at 300,000, up from 140,000 last year, and the first-time subsidy will also apply to part of the ferry tickets.
The nights from five to six nights, while on the islands affected by the refugee crisis(Lesvos, Samos, Chios, Kos, etc.) and Evros, the beneficiaries can spend up to ten nights without extra payments from the beneficiary.
According to OAED Commander Spyros Protopsaltis, the announced program is more attractive than in previous years.
“It is an improved and enhanced program,” he said in an interview with the MEGA Social Hour programme, adding that applications will be made electronically and the corresponding platform will open in June.
“The program will start on August 1 and will last 12 months,” he added.
Hotel businesses and accommodation can also participate in the social tourism program, provided that they have a legal function and have, during the summer and holidays, a percentage of their rooms for the beneficiaries of social tourism.
Beneficiaries are those who, regardless of income, have, either as employees, 50 days of insurance in EFKA, or 50 days of unemployment benefit. Those who are registered in the special register of unemployed disabled people of OAED and all women who received a 50-day maternity allowance.
“In the program, you receive a check year after year, except for those who are registered in the special register of unemployed disabled people of OAED” added Mr. Protopsaltis.
