The government’s plan to restart tourism has recently been unfolded by Tourism Minister Haris Theocharis, taking over from Economy Minister Christos Staikouras, Labor Minister Giannis Vroutsis and Development Adonis Georgiadis, who announced earlier interventions in the economy’s front.
Mr. Theocharis announced that the Restart Tourism plan, as it is code-named, is a complete clear and designed to ensure the safety of employees and businesses.
The restart of the tourism industry is evolving on two fronts. The first concerns the domestic front and the second concerns the opening of borders and attracting visitors from abroad.
As for the domestic front on May 25, yachting has started with good reservations. On June 1, the 12-month hotels and campsites will open. Finally, earlier than originally announced, on June 15, the seasonal hotels will open, in order to welcome visitors from abroad.
The second front of the restart of the tourism industry concerns the arrival of visitors from abroad, with Mr. Theocharis announcing that flights to Eleftherios Venizelos will be released from June 15, but from countries with good epidemiological criteria, and from July 1 the flights to all airports in the country. Countries such as Germany, Bulgaria and other Baltic countries will be the markets that will supply visitors to Greece this year.
In fact, as announced by the Minister of Tourism, potential visitors to Greece will not be required to perform a coronavirus detection test, nor will they be quarantined, however, sample tests will be performed on visitors in Greece.
One must note ANYONE entering Greece up until 31.05.2020 will have to self quarantine for a total of 14 days. Hefty fines still stand if the law is breeched.
